2.31.1 WCAG 1.3.1 (A), 3.3.2 (A), 4.1.1 (A) - Desktop

On the Patient Settings page’s ethnicity dropdown list, screen readers announce that four items are present, but only three are displayed on screen. Similarly, on the Drug Intolerances section checklist, the screen reader informs users that there are eighteen elements in the list—however, there are more than eighteen.

This inconsistency can be confusing for screen reader users. They may expect to find more options within the list, or may be surprised to find more items than previously expected.

2.31.2 Recommendation

Ensure that the visual experience matches the programmatic experience for screen reader users. Use native HTML for dropdown lists (<select>) and checklists (<input type="checkbox">) since they are designed to work with assistive technology.
