1.3 Users unable to interact with required input field (P)

FIGURE 1.3: Date of Birth required field highlighted on the Basic Information Enrolment page
1.3.1 WCAG 1.3.1 (A), 4.1.1 (A) - Desktop
The Date of Birth on the Basic Information Enrolment page is a required field, however, users are unable to access this field using either a keyboard or a mouse. This is particularly problematic as this is a required field and users would not be able to progress any further.
The field has been assigned a readonly
attribute (see Read only form field also announced as editable (M) ). This means that users cannot edit the field to type in their input.
This renders the function completely unusable.
Furthermore, screen reader users are not informed that the field is required so they wouldn’t know why they are unable to progress, which would make the process even more frustrating (see Required fields not announced as such to screen reader users (H) ).
1.3.2 Recommendation
Do not disable fields that require inputs from the user.
1.3.3 Spot check: December 2022
This issue has been resolved. It was previously in the Basic Information Enrolment page and is now located in the Patient profile page within enrolment. The date of birth field is no longer a required field that can be edited. It presents on screen as plain text.
This issue has changed from a ‘High’ severity issue to a ‘Positive’ finding.
